Mobile environment constraints

Mobile environment constraints

This document outlines the limitations encountered when using SHIELDGate in mobile environments (such as tablets, smartphones, etc.).

Video conferencing not supported

The SHIELDGate and SHIELDEX Remote Browser products do not support video conferencing in mobile environments (such as tablets, smartphones, etc.).

Products that support web-based video conferencing, such as Teams, Google Meet, and Zoom, all utilize WebRTC, which is used in browsers like Chrome and Edge.

  • WebRTC is a technology that allows video calls and voice calls to be made using a camera and microphone between web browsers without the need for plugin installation.

Browsers such as Chrome and Edge installed on PCs support WebRTC, but browsers installed in mobile environments do not support WebRTC.

For this reason, video conferences cannot be conducted directly through the browser in a mobile environment, and it is necessary to run a separate App to participate in the video conference.

SHIELDGate and SHIELDEX Remote Browser create disposable virtual (Chrome) browsers and perform isolated access, so WebRTC must be supported in the mobile virtual (Chrome) browser.

This limitation will remain in effect until WebRTC is supported in the mobile Chrome browser or an alternative technology to WebRTC is discovered.
